Caring for Your Jewelry

Handcrafted in small batches, each piece is made to last. A little care goes a long way in keeping your jewelry looking its best.

Pearls

Pearls are organic and delicate — they should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

• Clean: Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth after each wear. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or harsh chemicals.
• Store: Keep pearls in a soft pouch or lined box, away from other pieces that could scratch them. Avoid airtight containers — pearls need a little humidity to stay lustrous.
• Avoid: Perfume, hairspray, lotions, and chlorine. Apply cosmetics before putting on your pearls.

Crystals & Gemstones

Natural stones and crystals vary in hardness and porosity. Handle with care to preserve their surface and color.

• Clean: Use a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking porous stones (agate, turquoise, opal) in water.
• Store: Keep each piece separately to prevent scratching. A fabric-lined box or individual pouches work well.
• Avoid: Prolonged sun exposure (can fade color), ultrasonic cleaners, and harsh chemical cleaners.

Gold-Filled

Gold-filled jewelry contains a thick layer of solid gold bonded to a base metal — it's significantly more durable than gold-plated and can last decades with proper care.

• Clean: Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth. For a deeper clean, use mild soap and warm water, then pat dry thoroughly.
• Store: Keep in an airtight bag or closed jewelry box to slow tarnishing. Separate pieces to avoid scratching.
• Avoid: Chlorine (pools, hot tubs), saltwater, harsh chemicals, and abrasive cloths. Remove before swimming, exercising, or applying lotions and perfumes.
• If it tarnishes: Gently polish with a gold polishing cloth. Tarnish on gold-filled is rare but can occur at the edges — it buffs off easily.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver (92.5% pure silver) naturally oxidizes over time. Regular wear actually slows tarnishing — the oils in your skin help maintain its shine.

• Clean: Use a silver polishing cloth or a paste of baking soda and water applied with a soft cloth. Rinse and dry completely.
• Store: Store in an airtight bag or anti-tarnish pouch when not in use. Keep away from rubber, which accelerates tarnishing.
• Avoid: Chlorine, bleach, sulfur-containing products (some rubber bands, wool), and saltwater. Remove before swimming or cleaning.
• If it tarnishes: This is normal and reversible. A silver polishing cloth restores shine in minutes. For heavier tarnish, a silver dip solution works well — rinse thoroughly afterward.

General Tips

• Put jewelry on last, after makeup, perfume, and hairspray.
• Remove before swimming, bathing, exercising, or sleeping.
• Clean pieces before storing, not after wearing — residue accelerates tarnish.
• When in doubt, a soft dry cloth is always safe.
